The National Aerospace Laboratory NLR in The Netherlands has developed the satellite ground station ARTEMIS for environmental monitoring in support of global food security and migratory pest surveillance. ARTEMIS gives information for early warning of drought, crop failures, and desert locust plagues in Africa and the Near East. ARTEMIS is operated (from mid-1988) by the Remote SensingCentre of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and is located in Rome.
