Climate driven changes in the fonctioning of heath and moorland ecosystems

CLIMOOR is linked to the environmental problem of global climate change. It is designed to answer questions of how the functioning of European heath- and moorlands will change if our climate changes as hypothesised.

The objectives of CLIMOOR are:

• To identify the relative effects of temperature and reduced summer rainfall on the functioning of non-forested semi-natural ecosystems, in particular the effects on:
• organic matter production and turnover
• carbon allocation
• species composition
• drainage water quality
• gaseous losses of C and N
• To relate results across the sites to climate and nitrogen and sulphur deposition
• To assess the risk of changes in functioning in low vegetation ecosystem to predicted climatic change

CLIMOOR is carried out in heath- and moorland ecosystems in Denmark, UK, the Netherlands and in Spain
