DART

Dynamic response of the forest-tundra ecotone to environmental change

Co-ordinator : Brian Huntley

DART is a multi-disciplinary research project funded by the European Commission as part of the 'Environment and Climate' programme of the 4th Framework. Scientists from 11 institutions in 6 European countries are taking part in the project. The project commenced in April 1998 and will run for 4 years.

The overall aim of the project is to increase our understanding of ecosystem dynamics at the forest-tundra ecotone in northern Europe and, in particular, to quantify the dynamics of the response of this ecotone to changes in climate and in land use. The project is applying a combination of monitoring, manipulation and modelling approaches at a series of primary and secondary study sites arranged along two intersecting transects through Fennoscandia.
